Marc Márquez gets a new podium and Jorge Lorenzo rejoins
On the 23rd, 24th and 25th the Moto GP riders traveled to the Silverstone circuit to compete in the British Grand Prix.
Friday's free practice took place normally on the newly paved English circuit. Marc Márquez quickly took advantage by cutting the time per lap up to 2 seconds ending the day in second place overall, with a fall without consequences. Jorge Lorenzo faced his first day with caution, even so, he was able to improve his lap time by about a second and a half.
With a track in perfect condition, on Saturday the riders played the qualifying training. Lap times improved rapidly in each session, but no one could lose the 1’58.168 that Marc Márquez scored and gave him the 60th pole position in Moto GP after a total of 120 in his sports career. The current world champion demonstrated a strong and steady career pace. His teammate Jorge Lorenzo also followed a line of improvement session after session.
On Sunday and under a clear sky the British Grand Prix was disputed. After the start of the race Márquez took the lead thus avoiding the incident of the closest rival of the championship, Andrea Dovizioso who starred in a spectacular fall after jumping over Fabio Quartararo's motorcycle, the potential candidate for the podium. With the closest rivals out of the race, Marc Márquez led the entire race and set a new career lap record of 1,559,936. Alex Rins pursued without censoring the current champion and in the last corner Márquez was forced to close the accelerator losing the victory by 0.013s and complying with the second place on the podium. In this way, Márquez increases his advantage in the Moto GP World Championship with an advantage of 78 points with seven races to play.
Jorge Lorenzo began the British Grand Prix with the objective of finishing the race taking into account his physical condition. The Mallorcan finished in 14th place rewarded with a couple of points.
Honda gets 45 points from Ducati in the Constructors' Championship and takes the Repsol Honda Team to 36 points from the Ducati Team in the Team Championship.
The races will resume at the San Marino GP which will take place from September 13 to 15.
