Rea achieves two podiums and a record superpole at the Motorland-Aragón event

After a good performance on Saturday, achieving his 42nd Superpole with a track record included and a third place, Rea added a second place on Sunday.

The Kawasaki Racing Team appeared at the Motorland circuit in Aragon with Jonathan Rea and Florian Marino, the team's test rider who was replacing Alex Lowes due to the injury from the French round of Magny Cours.

Saturday started very well for Jonathan Rea who achieved his 42nd Superpole in WorldSBK, breaking the track record with an astonishing time of 1'47.937.

Rea fought for the lead throughout the first race, fighting with Toprak Razgatlioglu and Michael Ruben Rinaldi on several occasions while the leader of the general classification, Álvaro Bautista, crashed on two occasions. Finally, the victory went to Rinaldi followed by Razgatlioglu who overtook Rea who was suffering from traction problems with three laps remaining.

Marino made a consistent race to 16th position, just one position away from entering the points. During the race he improved his 18th Superpole position.

In Sunday's Tissot Superpole race Rea led nine of the ten laps, closely pressed by Bautista and Razgatlioglu. The Spaniard was only able to overtake Rea on the long back straight, leaving the Kawasaki rider no chance of overtaking him before the checkered flag fell.

In the second test on Sunday, Rea was unable to get on the podium due to grip problems in both the front and rear tires, making it quite a challenge to finish in fourth position. The winner of the race was Bautista followed by Razgatlioglu and Rinaldi third.

KRT test rider Florian Marino, who was one position short of points in the first race on Sunday, did manage to score his first point in Race Two.

In the general standings, Jonathan Rea remains third with 53 points ahead of the fourth place. Alex Lowes, still recovering, is ninth overall and Marino's point in his first World Cup event places him in 23rd place overall.

STATEMENTS:
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team rider):
“"Even in the first laps on Saturday I really felt like I had everything under control and it was, in fact, easy to be behind Álvaro… It was seen in Superpole that the time lap was incredible. Even losing time in sector four I could do what I wanted with the bike. On Sunday the set-up of the bike was not very different today, so we have to analyze what happened in the second race. I'm just guessing now, but I think with the SCX-A rear tire maybe we exceeded the temperature threshold.”
Florian Marino (Kawasaki Racing Team Rider): “I'm happy to finally get a point after all the work done over the weekend. I have enjoyed it a lot. The second race was a little more difficult, with the conditions changing. I was struggling a lot with my front end to stop the bike.... I am very grateful and I want to thank the entire team for their support; They have been very good to me. I'm sure this will help me with my testing work for them in the future. Thanks guys."
