MV Agusta defines itself as a luxury motorcycle construction company, founded in 1945 in Cascina Costa, near the city of Milan, in Italy. However, the company started out as a branch of the Agusta aviation company, founded by Count Giovanni Agusta in 1923. Starting in 1950, the company was already manufacturing small-displacement, Cafe Racer-style motorcycles, until in 1980 it stopped producing motorcycles after going into decline. In 1997, the company was afloat again, bought by Cagiva.
The brand has always been closely linked to competition, participating in the Daytona International Speedway, Superstock, AMA Superbike Championship, the World Superbike Championship or the World Supersport Championship. In 2018, MV Agusta announced that he was returning to compete in the Motorcycle World Championship with Forward Racing in Moto2.
