John Hopkins
From his earliest racing days, John Hopkins was earmarked as a kid with a big future in racing. John was born in Ramona, California to parents freshly removed from their hometown of London, England where his father was a keen motorcyclist and former Isle of Man TT road racer. Before John could walk, he was taking rides on the tank of this father's machines. John grew up riding dirt bikes in the desert every weekend, and first raced at the age of 4 in a motocross event on a PeeWee 50. John spent most of his junior years racing motocross. At the precocious age of 9, John was offered the opportunity to make his road-racing debut in a junior club meeting aboard a YZR 50. As soon as he started road racing, he watched all of the GPs on TV and dremt wildly of being like his heroes Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz. Hopkins was invited to test ride the Supersport 600 for Ulrich which delivered an escalation of racing activities. Hopkins soon won the Aprilia Challenge Championship and joined the US Team Valvoline EMGO Suzuki team for team manager, John Ulrich.

When John was 16 years old he made his AMA Championship debut. In 2000, he won three races and scored 6 podium finishes to clinch the AMA 750cc Supersport Championship and placed 2nd in the Formula USA Unlimited Superbike Championship with 7 wins out of 12 races. Hopkins continued his success in AMA racing by winning the Formula Xtreme Championship in 2001.

In 2002, John joined the factory RedBull Yamaha team to race on the MotoGP World Championship circuit and finished the season 9th in overall points. From 2003-2005, John had a string of pedestrian seasons for Suzuki finishing 17th in points in 2003, 16th in 2004, and 14th in 2005. In 2006, John picked up his racing and managed two 4th place finishes at Shanghai and Catalunya and finished 10th in overall points. Hopkins' best season yet came in 2007 at 24 years old making 4 podium appearances and finishing 4th overall for the season. He made the switch to Kawasaki in 2008 and unfortunately finished a disappointing 16th overall in points with his best finish was a 5th in Portugal.

In 2009, after 7 years competing in MotoGP, John made the move to World Superbike Racing riding for Stiggy Racing Honda racing on the CBR1000RR. An unlucky crash ended John's season early, also keeping him out of the majority of the 2010 AMA Superbike season with Team M4 Monster Suzuki. Hopkins finished 10th in overall points.

Now healthy and looking for a fresh start in 2011, Hopkins accepted a ride with Samsung Crescent Suzuki in the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship series. Hopkins is off to a fantastic start to the season, capturing 1st place at round 2 of BSB racing at Oulton Park.


Leon Camier
After beginning Grasstrack racing aged 6 and winning five British championships, Camier was British Junior 80 cc Road Racing champion in 1998. He won the British 125 cc title in 2001 and the British Supersport crown in 2005.[1] This period built a working relationship with Honda which included contesting the 2005 Suzuka 8 Hours race in 2005 at the age of 18[2] (unusually young for a non-Japanese rider).
2007 was his first season in the British Superbike Championship on a Bike Animal Honda. He led the first corners of his very first race and was on the podium in the first three races. A crash in race 6 at Silverstone and two eighth places at Oulton Park damaged his momentum however. At Snetterton, a bike failure in qualifying saw him start 29th but he moved up to 6th in both races amidst Honda dominance. His season ended with a huge crash at Cadwell Park causing a broken left femur and right pelvis.
For 2008 he joined the GSE Airwaves Ducati team alongside former champion Shane 'Shaky' Byrne. He finished fifth overall, taking his first three wins.
For 2009 GSE switched to Yamahas and James Ellison joined as him team-mate. Camier quickly dominated the series, winning even more races than Byrne had in 2008. He clinched the title with four races to go fittingly by overtaking closest rival Ellison on the penultimate lap of race 1 at Silverstone. Immediately on returning to the pits he was greeted by Niall Mackenzie (the last man to win the BSB title on a Yamaha) decked out in his original 1998 Rob Mac Cadbury's Boost leathers. Camier ultimately won a record-breaking 18 races despite only leading out of the first corner twice. His success led to the organisers of the series to adopt the "Matt Kenseth Rule" for 2010. This revised the points system to the split-season format popularly used by saloon-car series in the United States.
After winning the title, Camier was invited to join the Aprilia squad in the Superbike World Championship for the final two races of the season, replacing the injured Shinya Nakano.[4] His first meeting at Magny-Cours saw him qualify 16th improving to set the fourth fastest warm-up time. Unfortunately, two technical problems meant he took no points. However in the last meeting of the season at Portimao Camier finished 6th and 7th.
He is racing full-time with Aprilia in World Superbike in 2010. He finished second to team-mate Max Biaggi in race two at Miller Motorsport Park, giving Aprilia their first 1-2 in the series.[5] At his home round at Silverstone, Camier started 16th but fought back to finish sixth and third in the two races

Battered Camier in Magny-Cours Top-10

Camier had made his way up to sixth place by the end of lap nine in race one, despite the treacherous conditions caused by heavy rain around the 4,411m French circuit. He then suffered a huge crash which resulted in him being catapulted off his Yoshimura-powered GSX-R and into the gravel. The Englishman was pinned under his machine and could only get to his feet once the marshals had removed his bike, made his own way back to the pits, but was obviously in a lot of pain.
Camier was passed fit for the second 23-lap race and lined up in the drier conditions in ninth on the grid. He made a poor start as he tried to adapt to the battering his body had suffered - mostly down his left-hand side - and because of a problem with the electronics, probably due to the crash in the first race, which made the bike very hard to ride. By the end of the second lap he was down in 17th, but Camier re-grouped and began to pick off riders in-front of him throughout the race. He made his way up to 10th by the start of the penultimate lap and held the position to the end of the race, despite being in considerable discomfort.

John Hopkins wasn't on the grid today after withdrawing from the weekend's proceedings yesterday following a re-occurrence of his hip injury. He made the announcement today that he will be taking the 2013 season off to get himself back to full fitness and then re-assess his options once he is back to strength.

Today's first race victory was taken by Sylvain Guintoli on a Ducati on his home soil, with Tom Sykes racing to victory in the second event to push the title battle right to the wire. Italian Max Biaggi crossed the line in fifth place in race two, which was enough to give him the championship crown by the smallest margin in Superbike history. Biaggi took his second WSBK title - the sixth World Championship in his career - by just 0.5 points from Sykes.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will have a test at Aragon later this month and will also make the announcement of Camier's team-mate for next year very soon. The provisional date for the first round of 2013 is Sunday February 24th at the Phillip Island Circuit in Australia.

Leon Camier:

"I am really happy with our performance in wet conditions, but race one was neither wet, nor dry and that is the worst possible scenario. All was going OK until I came out of turn 11 and was high-sided. I was flipped into the air and came down heavily on my left arm and head and then the bike landed on top of me and I couldn't move. It seemed ages before it was removed and I was able to get up. I felt pretty sore, but luckily I hadn't broken anything, even though my left arm had taken a right old battering.

"The FIXI Crescent Suzuki was in a bit of mess, but the boys did a great job to get it ready in time for race two and we lined up on the grid OK. Right from the start, I felt that the bike wasn't quite right - not surprising really after its big crash - and it was difficult to ride. The electronics didn't feel quite right and I didn't get a great start, but I was determined to bring the bike home and that's what I did. Although the season didn't end the way I hoped, the progress the team have made with the FIXI Crescent Suzuki makes me feel very optimistic about the future. The bike has come on leaps-and-bounds since the beginning of the season and I'm already looking forward to my next time on it - once I've rested my left arm a bit!"

"It has been probably the strangest season I've known, but the good news is that, thanks to all the hard work the team have done, we've shown that the FIXI Crescent Suzuki can be a competitive bike and run with the best. It was a pity that the conditions were so treacherous in the first race, making life hard for everybody - but that's how racing is sometimes. Leon took real hammering in the crash and it took a lot of guts for him to get on the bike in race two and, all things considered, I think he did really well to get a top-10 finish."

Camier cruelly robbed of portuguese podium

Camier started from ninth on the grid and had made his way up to sixth by lap-three. He continued to close the gap on the leading riders as the race progressed and was in a position to challenge championship leader Max Biaggi when the race entered its final few laps. Camier tried to make a pass on the Italian, as the Aprilia rider ran slightly wide, but Biaggi didn't see Camier on his inside and cut back across, accidently hitting the FIXI Crescent Suzuki man. Camier stayed on-board and gave chase again, before making another attempt to get past Biaggi, he succeeded briefly, but couldn't make the pass stick, so continued to line up the Italian for another attack. Unfortunately disaster struck for Camier before he had the opportunity, as a transmission issue forced him into the pits and retirement from the race at the start of the very last lap - ruefully wondering what might have been. In a disjointed and difficult first race, Camier was again looking menacing as he sat in eighth place and within touching distance of the riders in front, but due to an incident in the wet conditions the race was red flagged. A rider crashed on one of the many damp patches that were a result of the torrential rain that had fallen earlier and a re-start over 16-laps was ordered. Camier couldn't quite find his rhythm in the second staging of the interrupted race and after a five-way battle for eighth place; he eventually finished in 11th on his Yoshimura-powered GSX-R.

John Hopkins made a strong showing during his first races at the 4,592 Portuguese circuit, as he continued with his improvement over the demanding layout. In the second race - held in dry and sunny conditions - he made a good start from 19th on the grid and was up into 14th by lap-three. Hopkins continued to push for the remainder of the race and finally brought his FIXI Crescent Suzuki GSX-R home for a safe and creditable 11th position, one place better than the 12th he secured in race one, where he too was in the battle for eighth with Camier and three other riders. Hopkins coped well with the difficult conditions in the first event and was unlucky not to pick up a top-10 result for his hard work.

Today's races saw two different winners as Tom Sykes triumphed in race one, with Eugene Laverty on an Aprilia taking victory in the second event. Max Biaggi retained, and increased, his championship lead, with Sykes in second and Marco Melandri - who crashed in race one and was unable to participate in race two - now in third in the title chase.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will next head to France, as the championship draws to a close, for the final two races of the season at Magny Cours on Sunday 7th October.

Leon Camier:

"The FIXI Crescent Suzuki worked really well in the morning warm-up, which took place in fully wet conditions, so I was quite happy about riding the bike in the same conditions in race one. When the race was restarted, the track was not completely wet and it began to dry out in some places. The settings we had just didn't work as well as we hoped and I had to get round as best I could.

"Fortunately, race two was dry. I attacked right from the start and moved up the field. It took a bit of time to get past Guintoli, but once I had overtaken him I set about Biaggi. It was a close battle - close enough for us to make contact - and I really believed I could find a way past, make it stick and take third spot. I had a few problems with the gearbox during the race and then the bike locked up on me with two laps to go and I had to take to the run-off. I tried to keep going, but it happened a couple of times more and nearly spat me off, so I had no choice but to pull out. I'm happy though because the bike has come on a lot in the recent months and I now know we can fight with the best."

John Hopkins:

"Although the results are a bit average and I'd have preferred better ones, I'm quite happy with today. The first race was very tricky and if there hadn't been a red flag it would've taken place in full wet conditions and that would've been easier to manage. Once the track started drying out, conditions worsened and it was pretty difficult to get round - especially towards the end when the tyres had completely gone.

"I got a good start in race two, but got bumped off the track by another rider and lost quite a few places. After that I kept my head down and went as hard as I could for a finish. This was my first time at Portimao. It's a pretty hard track to learn, but this weekend we found some good information on the bike and that makes me very happy about the future."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"It probably sounds a bit funny, but this has been a very productive and fantastic weekend for us and it's been a good day for the team, because we've proved that we can be competitive and run with the best. I am very pleased because all the hard work the team have put in is showing dividends and it is a huge boost to our morale. It was great to see Leon fighting with Biaggi in the second race and this shows that the FIXI Crescent Suzuki is a genuine challenger. If it hadn't been for the problem, I think we could've had another podium. The conditions in race one were hard for everybody and our bike settings didn't work as well as we wanted, but even so, we learnt something and found some good directions for the future. Both riders brought their bikes home in the points, but I'm sure the results would've been better if the race had taken place in the wet, instead of half-and-half.

"John rode solidly in both races today and had some fun again and that's good to see. Even though Leon failed to finish the second race today, the team are on a high, all really pumped up and looking forward to the next round. We want to show that our recent form has been no fluke and we'll be going all-out for podiums at Magny-Cours."

Fabulous fith for Camier, season's best for Hopkins

Leon Camier scored a stunning fifth in race two after starting from 18th on the grid. He made a good start and was up to 13th by the end of the first lap, before picking his was way through the field to get into the top-10 by the 10th circulation. Camier continued to record lap-times that were comparable with the leaders and managed to avoid a big crash in-front of him, to bring his Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R1000 home in the top-five. Camier finished 15th in race one after a gamble to use wet-tyres in the interchangeable weather didn't pay-off and he was forced to pit and change to slicks when the track dried out sooner than he thought and the expected rain never materialised. John Hopkins raced to his best World Superbike result for the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team when he brought his machine home in ninth place in race one. Hopkins rode a solid race in the difficult conditions and steered clear of any crashes and incidents that marked the first WSB race at the 3'931m Moscow Raceway. Race two saw Hopkins again in the points as he finished in 12th to record his best haul of points in a weekend this year, from his injury affected season.

Today saw the inaugural World Superbike race to be held in Russia and the distinction of being the first winner went to Tom Sykes on a Kawasaki. The second race was won by Italian Marco Melandri on a BMW, a result that lifts him to the head of the world championship standings.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will now make the long journey back from Moscow and begin its preparations for the next round of the season, which will be at the Nurburgring in Germany on Sunday 9th September.

Leon Camier:

"The track was pretty damp for race one and there was only about a two foot wide dry line round most of it. Because of my grid position, I knew that in order to pass people I would have to go off the dry line. That wouldn't have been possible on slicks, so I opted for wets instead. I also thought that the rain would come again, but when that didn't happen and the track dried out, I had no choice but to come into the pits and switch to slicks. That cost a lot of time and after my new tyres had been fitted I rejoined the race dead last. I pushed as hard as I could and ended 15th.

"Happily there were no difficult tyre choices to make for race two as the track was dry and the sun was out. I made a reasonably good start and then rode very aggressively, passing people on the outside as well as the inside. My FIXI Crescent Suzuki felt good and the only place I was really losing out was on the long back straight. At the end, my body was hurting and it was getting hard to concentrate, but I was pretty happy to take fifth place."

John Hopkins:

"It was a kind of frustrating day for me and it should've been much better. I started race one on slicks and probably rode a bit too timidly in the early stages and lost ground. Halfway through, I got stuck in a bit of a group and when the track dried out, it got dirty and caused a loss of grip. I kept the FIXI Crescent Suzuki upright and brought it home, which makes me reasonably happy.

"I was looking forward to race two, but unfortunately suffered with the same tyre issues that have bugged us all weekend. The bike was chattering a lot and I could only ride it at a certain level - which meant I couldn't finish any higher than 12th."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"It was always going to be a difficult day and it wasn't helped by the slightly wet conditions at the start of the first race. Leon began on wets, but had to pit and change to slicks when the track began to dry and ended 15th. John started on slicks and rode steadily throughout the race and finished ninth.

"Fortunately the conditions were perfect for race two. Leon made a good start and began picking up places straightaway. His race pace was very good and he was doing equivalent times to the leaders. He kept his head down and finished a strong fifth, which is a tremendous result considering that he started from 18th place on the grid. It was a great ride and shows how good the FIXI Crescent Suzuki is at this high level of competition. Chattering on John's bike hampered his progress in race two, but he kept at it and managed to finish 12th.

"Today was Leon's second best result of the season but, considering his injury and his 18th place on the grid, I think it is an even better ride than his fourth place at Donington earlier in the year."

Camier takes ninth for Fixi Crescent Suzuki at Brno

Camier started from 13th on the grid and made up two positions on the first lap before moving into the top-10 on lap-16 around the 5,403m Czech circuit. Camier then made his way past Michel Fabrizio on the next lap and held out to take a deserved ninth after all his hard work this weekend. He was also in the points in race one, as he steered his Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R to 14th place in the very difficult conditions that faced the riders in the first 20-lap event. John Hopkins had a tough afternoon, but can take consolation from finishing both races in the points for the first time this season, as he continues his push back to full race fitness. Hopkins brought his FIXI Crescent Suzuki GSX-R home in 15th in race one and went one place better in the second event to record a safe and solid 14th. He will now continue to improve his fitness before the next round, which will see him racing in Britain for the first time since his epic BSB battle last season.

Today's first race was held in very difficult conditions after a rain-storm soaked the Brno track, but by the time the race started it had dried considerably and most riders chose to use slick tyres in the damp - but drying - conditions. Marco Melandri on a BMW won race one and repeated the feat in the second event - which was held in warm and sunny conditions - to close the gap at the top of the championship to current leader Max Biaggi.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will next be in action at the team's - and Camier's - home WSB event of the season, when the World Superbike series heads to Silverstone in England for round 10 on Sunday 5th August. Before that though, Camier will be representing the Yoshimura Suzuki squad at the prestigious Suzuka 8-hour in Japan next weekend.

Leon Camier:

"Conditions were very tricky at the start of the first race and the track was pretty wet. Because we all knew it would dry out, we all chose slicks, but that made the opening laps a bit difficult. After my experience in Assen, I was a bit nervous in the wet and wasn't confident enough to push too hard. I know that I need to improve my confidence in these kinds of conditions. I made a bad start in race two and then started making up places before too long. It was a case of just bashing my way through and once I managed to get past Rea and Smrz, I set about trying to catch Fabrizio. Once I got past him, I went after the group ahead, but ran out of laps before I could improve my position. In the second race my FIXI Crescent Suzuki felt good and so did I. It was very encouraging to be able to run with the fast guys and if I had made a better start I'm sure I would've been challenging for a top four or five position."

John Hopkins:

"The conditions in the first race were definitely not easy. I started from the inside of the track which was the wettest part and so had to be careful at the beginning. Even so, the bike still span up a few times. I got caught in a group towards the back of the field and managed to hit the wrong button on my traction control and turned it off by mistake. I then put in some decent laps, but by then it was too late.

"The track was much better for race two. I got a good start, pushed hard and kept my head down. I was battling with Smrz and Rea and trying everything I knew to get past them, but I began to struggle with edge grip. As the race wore on, my tyre was gone, so I settled for a finish and some points. The results today were not what I wanted or expected, but were better than some before."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"Both riders went out on slicks in race one, which was the right choice of tyres because the track was drying out. Leon was a bit tentative at the beginning and that cost him places and that was more or less the same situation for John. I am very disappointed with the first race and think that the results would've been better if both riders had been able to manage their onboard electronic control system better. Leon ran a really good second race and would've finished higher up if he had made a better start. He picked riders off and that was good to see. John complained of edge grip and that prevented his progress. I am really pleased about all the work done by the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team since Aragon. The bike's acceleration has improved and now Leon and John can slipstream other bikes - something they couldn't do before. We're going straight back to the workshops and we'll be putting in the same amount of work to try and find further improvement."

Top 10 for Camier and Fixi Crescent Suzuki in Spain

Camier started from 14th on the grid and got off to a great start to make his way to 10th by the end of the first lap. He was involved in a race-long battle with several other riders that saw the group of them swapping positions as the race progressed. Camier was in 11th as the final lap started, but a two-rider collision in-front of the FIXI Crescent rider on the Yoshimura-powered Suzuki, saw him benefit and bring his machine home for a tough - but deserved - ninth place. In race two Camier again got a good start and was up into 10th place early on. Unfortunately a technical issue with his bike forced him to enter the pits and retire at the end of lap 17. John Hopkins had another frustrating day, after a number of mistakes in his first race at the 5,344m Motorland Aragon circuit cost him valuable places and a mechanical fault also forced him to retire from race two after nearly four-laps. Hopkins got a good start in the first event and by lap four had moved up to 12th place from 21st on the grid. Unfortunately he made a number of mistakes in the closing stages that cost him dearly, before he eventually took the chequered flag in the 15th and final points scoring place. Race two saw him have to exit the track at turn-16 on lap four and call an early end to the day's proceedings. Hopkins was very disappointed with the results, but can take some solace that he was able to complete the weekend, in very difficult conditions, with no after-effects of the injuries that have also hampered his season so far.

Today's races were held in much cooler conditions than have been experienced this weekend. Race one saw track temperatures almost 30° lower than on previous days, with it warming up slightly for the second event. Max Biaggi on an Aprilia took victory in race one to extend his World Championship lead, with Marco Melandri emerging victorious on a BMW in race two.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will now return to the UK, before it heads off across Europe for the ninth round of the season, which is due to be held at Brno in the Czech Republic on Sunday 22nd July.

Leon Camier:

"The funny thing is that I felt that I was riding really well today. I was all over most of the other riders in the turns and on the brakes, but was losing out on acceleration out of the slow corners. On the back straight, I was losing somewhere between three and five tenths-of-a-second and that's hard to make up in this level of competition.

"The wind was quite strong today and it affected our braking points and it was easy to overshoot the corners - especially the slow hairpin at the end of the back straight. I am really happy with the chassis of my FIXI Crescent Suzuki and I feel that the electronics have improved quite a bit recently. If we can improve the acceleration out of the turns and get a bit more power, I think that our bike is capable of competing with the best."

John Hopkins:

"On a day like today, it's hard to say much at all. I didn't make a great start in the first race, but managed to settle into some kind of rhythm. As the race wore on, I made a few mistakes and ran off the track a couple of times and at this level, it's so hard to get back into contention. I managed to get into the points, but I felt it should've been better.

"In race two, the bike felt slow, more or less from the start, and then it got worse, so I had to pull in. You get days like today in racing sometimes, but it's never easy to deal with when the problem is not of your own making. I am sure the team will work hard to make sure it doesn't happen again."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"You never know what racing is going to throw up. I know we're better than our current results, so it's up to all of us to put in the hard work and get better. We have to improve our qualifying position, so that both riders have a better chance in the races.

"Once Leon got his head down in race one, he was lapping as good as almost anybody and was very consistent. He used a hard tyre to be strong at the end of the race, but it cost him in the early part. He was on course for a solid 11th place, but got gifted 9th when Badovini and Sykes tangled and crashed - the way things are at the moment, I'll take that result! John made a good start in race one, passing Leon after his team-mate made a small mistake in turn one. He was over-riding the bike, trying to make up for the acceleration deficit in the corners, but that wore the tyre out, which caused some mistakes and a drop down the order. Both riders failed to finish the second race because of mechanical problems. That disappoints me and shows us there's a lot of hard work to be done. I'm sure we'll solve the problems and come back stronger."

Top-10 for Camier at the first race in Misano

Camier started from 14th on the grid and was quickly on the pace and involved in a multi-bike battle for top-10 places. As the race progressed Camier tried to push on, but the technical nature of the 4,226m Italian circuit made overtaking very difficult. With two laps remaining Camier had made his way up to 12th, before passing two riders on the same lap to move into 10th, a position that he held until the chequered flag. In race two, Camier was in ninth by the fifth lap, but a crash ruined his chances of improving on his race one result. He was uninjured and able to get back on his Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R and rejoin the race to try and salvage something. Camier chased after the pack and eventually came home in 15th place for a final points-scoring position and thoughts of what might have been. John Hopkins scored points in the second race as he completed his first double race weekend of the season. He finished the 24-laps of race one in 17th position, before bringing his machine home in 14th place - despite being hit by another rider high-siding in-front of him - to score his first points since round three of his injury-hit season. Hopkins will take solace from completing the 48-laps from the two races today, with no ill effects from his recent injuries and will look to be stronger for the next round in three weeks' time.

Today's races were held in warm and sunny conditions, with track temperatures getting up to 41°C. Italian Max Biaggi on an Aprilia took victory on his home soil in both races to extend his title lead.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will next be in race action at the Motorland Aragon Circuit in Spain on Sunday 1st July for the eighth round of the championship.

Leon Camier:

"I know the results don't look great, but I'm pretty happy with our potential today - especially race two. We made a bit of a gamble with the settings in race one, because the conditions were quite a bit cooler than they had been, but the settings weren't spot on and the grip wasn't too good, so the tyres wore out pretty quickly. I rode as hard as I could, kept a consistent pace and finished 10th.

"The bike felt really good in race two and I was lapping quickly from the start. I made a lot of progress and was enjoying myself passing people. Everything felt comfortable until a tip-off in turn four. I think I might have gone in a bit slower and tighter than normal and the front suddenly folded and down I went. I got back on the bike and, a lap later, I was just four-tenths-of-a-second slower than my previous best lap. During the race I set times equal to all the top guys except Biaggi. I was the fastest rider in sector four, second in sector five and third in sector one, that shows how well the FIXI Crescent Suzuki was going - probably the best it's been all year! I feel really positive after today and now all we have to do is nail qualifying and we'll be up there fighting with the fast guys for sure."

John Hopkins:

"I can't say that I am too happy with the results, but I am happy because I've done 48-laps today in hard conditions with no problems and I'm regaining my confidence. I didn't make a particularly good start in race one and then got held up in traffic. It took a bit of time, but once in the clear I tried to stay consistent throughout the race. My lap times at the end of the race were good, so it's a pity that I lost touch at the start.

"We made some quite big changes to the bike for race two and I felt an improvement straight away. Starting races from the fifth row of the grid is never easy - especially when the competition is so tough. To make matters worse, Mercado high-sided right in front of me early on and he and his bike hit me and forced me off the track and into the gravel. I recovered, rejoined the action and then spent the rest of the race playing catch-up. Once again I was running pretty good lap times, but unable to make as much progress as I would've liked because of my grid position."

Paul Denning - Team Principal:

"For John, the important thing this weekend was to rebuild his physical strength and his confidence. Even though the day didn't go to plan - results wise - he put 48-laps under his belt and made good improvements. He was unfortunate to get knocked off the track in race two, but recovered and was lapping well at the end of the race.

"Leon today showed massive potential - especially in race two. Without the crash, I'm sure a minimum of the top-five was on the cards - the lap times demonstrate that. The crash was unfortunate but we were impressed with his commitment to pick the bike out of the gravel and immediately start charging again.

"We've got two days of testing coming up in Aragon and that will provide John with more miles, which will be good for his comeback and will stand him in good stead when we race there a week later. He, Leon and the team will keep working hard, keep learning and keep trying to get the FIXI Crescent Suzuki competing with the fastest riders - which is where we believe we can be."

Hard battle ahead for Fixi Crescent Suzuki

Camier (P14, 1'37.985) will start from the fourth row of the grid, with Hopkins (P18, 1'37.168) immediately behind his team-mate on row five. On a circuit where it is important to make a good start to ensure that you stay with the leaders, both FIXI Crescent riders will be looking to get their Yoshimura-powered Suzukis off the line and on the pace quickly. Camier looked impressive in this morning's final qualifying session when he posted the eighth quickest time and for a large part of Superpole 1 he looked like he would advance to Superpole 2. Unfortunately Camier just missed out on a higher grid position, despite pushing hard all the way to end of the session and recording his best time on his last lap. Part of the track was still damp from previous rain showers and Camier delayed his timing for a good lap as long as he could, but unfortunately his gamble didn't pay-off and he ran out of time. Hopkins lapped almost half-of-a-second quicker in this morning's qualifying session than he did in yesterday's first qualifying, but the close nature of World Superbike racing around the 4,226m Italian circuit meant his improvement was not enough to get him into this afternoon's Superpole. He was on a fast lap that looked good enough to get him into Superpole, but got held up by a couple of slower riders and was unable to better his time as the session came to an end. Less than a second covered the top-17 riders this morning, which gives an indication that close racing could be the order of the day on Sunday.

This afternoon's Superpole was actually declared wet, despite the fact that the rain had finished and the track was almost dry by the time the session began. Due to a wet declaration it meant it was two 20-minute sessions instead of the three shorter ones that are normally scheduled in the dry conditions. Tom Sykes on a Kawasaki recorded the fastest time to take his fifth pole position from the seven events so far this year.

Camier and Hopkins will have a warm-up session tomorrow morning to make any final alterations in time for the two races scheduled for later in the day, the first of which gets underway at 12.00hrs local time (11.00hrs BST).

Today also saw the renaming of the Italian circuit in honour of the late Marco Simoncelli. During a ceremony at the track attended by Simoncelli's father, a new logo was unveiled and the circuit will now be known as ‘Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli', out of respect to the popular Italian racer who lost his life in MotoGP at Malaysia last year.

Leon Camier:

"My race pace on normal rubber is competitive and things were looking good for Superpole this afternoon, but when the rain came down, it ruined everything. Although it stopped pretty soon, there were quite a few damp patches on the far side of the track and it was difficult to know how hard to push the bike. I wasn't confident enough to push really hard, but I still thought I'd make Superpole 2 OK. Towards the end of Superpole 1, we fitted a new tyre, but once I got out on the track, I experienced chatter and that was that. I've practiced some starts and I'm happy with the way they went, so hopefully I'll manage to get two good starts tomorrow. I've got some of the top guys nearby, so I think it's going to be a pretty exciting tomorrow!"

John Hopkins:

"I spent the first part of this morning's qualifying carrying on getting comfortable with the bike - and the track - and also did some long runs. I put in a soft tyre and went for my fast lap, but I was held up by a couple of slower riders when I was really going for it. There wasn't enough time for me to pit and try again, so I guess I just was unlucky. With hindsight maybe I should've tried doing my fast lap a bit earlier, but that's how it panned out today and I will have to live with it. I am normally a good starter and I'm confident I can be in the mix from the start. It's easy to get held up at this track, so my aim is to be at least two rows forward by the time we all get to turn one and then keep making progress."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"It's hard to know exactly what to say today except that we know what Leon and John are capable of come race-day! Leon always has good race pace and so we expect him to move up the grid and challenge the lead group sooner rather than later. John continues to build his confidence and was just plain unlucky to get held up on his fast lap - I'm sure he'd have qualified for Superpole otherwise. It was a strange Superpole and quite a few of the top guys are also in difficult positions on the grid. It's a bit of a shame that we weren't able to capitalise on that, but it's going to make it all very interesting for the spectators and the TV audience tomorrow. "

Camier to race at Suzuka 8-Hour

Camier was recently asked in America by Yoshimura President, Fujio Yoshimura to join the Japanese team and was given permission by FIXI Crescent Suzuki to race at the third round of the World Endurance series. This historic event will take place on Sunday 29th July at the 5,864m Suzuka circuit and, as the name suggests, it is an eight-hour long endurance race where the riders alternate every 50 minutes for the whole duration of the event in an attempt to complete the most laps. The Suzuka circuit is one of the only tracks to have a ‘figure-8' layout, where the back straight passes over the front section by means of an overpass and is a very difficult and demanding track for riders and machines alike. Camier will next be in action for FIXI Crescent Suzuki in the World Superbike Championship at Misano this weekend, followed by races at Aragon and Brno in July, before he takes a break from his usual duties to join the Yoshimura Suzuki team. This year's Suzuka 8-hour will not only see the 35th anniversary of the race, but the Yoshimura Suzuki team also celebrates its 35th appearance at the event - the only team to have completed in every staging of the race - and with its three-pronged attack of Camier, Aoki and Waters, Yoshimura Suzuki will be aiming for its fifth victory.

Leon Camier:

"I am absolutely thrilled to be racing in the Suzuka 8-hour this year and honoured that Yoshimura have asked me to take part in such a prestigious race. I have done the Suzuka 8-Hour race three times before (in 2005, 2006 and 2007), but have never been particularly successful there, so I am hoping that this year will see a change of luck.

"It's an amazing race and probably the hardest - both physically and mentally - that a racer does. The temperatures are usually very hot and the track is so physical, it just saps all your energy. It is a hard track to learn because it is so long and it is also technically very demanding. I will have to learn how to ride the Yoshimura GSX-R on different tyres, but hopefully that will not be too much of a problem and I can run consistent lap-times. My goal is to get to grips with the tyres as soon as I can, keep up a good pace and still be fast at the end of the race.

For Yoshimura, the Suzuka 8-Hour is always a very special event and we think our team of Leon, Nobu Aoki and Josh Waters have a good chance of success."

Camier just misses Top-10 at Miller

Camier made a good start and was in 11th position when the race was stopped due to another rider crashing on the track and spilling oil. After a lengthy delay to clean the circuit, the race was re-started with the riders in the positions where the initial race was stopped. - meaning Camier started from row three in 11th place. He again got a good start and pushed his way into the top-10, before getting involved in a long battle with Sylvain Guintoli. Camier eventually had to settle for 11th, finishing just over 15 seconds behind the race-winner - a positive performance considering his initial grid position of 20th. Camier had a good start in race one as well, but got involved in a mid-field battle that eventually saw him bring his Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R home in 13th. John Hopkins had a torrid race-day on his return to the team from injury. He crashed out of race one after his FIXI Crescent Suzuki GSX-R hit a kerb and slid from underneath him, fortunately he walked away uninjured. In race two Hopkins suffered with a technical issue that caused him to lose power. He battled all the way to the line to try and secure a points-scoring position, before eventually bringing his machine home safely in 16th. He was disappointed with the results, but pleased to have completed such an exhausting race with no ill-effects from his recent injuries and confident of making big steps when the championship returns to Europe.

Today's races were held in bright and sunny conditions with air temperatures pushing up to 20°C. Current World Champion Carlos Checa won the first race on a Ducati, with Marco Melandri taking victory in the second on a BMW. Max Biaggi on an Aprilia strengthened his position at the head of the riders' championship by taking third place in both races.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will now travel back to its base in England to ready itself for the next races of the season, which are scheduled for Misano in Italy on Sunday 10th June.

Leon Camier:

"We knew today would be difficult because of our grid position. This championship is so competitive that you need to be on the first two rows of the grid if you want a shot at the podium. I made good starts and progressed well in both races and rode as hard as I could today. They were a couple of tough races, but I was happy with my race pace and know that I could've finished a lot higher up if I had started with a better grid position. I feel we'll definitely be better at the more twisty tracks - like our next race in Misano - and I am looking forward to qualifying better and fighting for a top-six or a podium."

John Hopkins:

"I'm happy to be back with the FIXI Crescent Suzuki team, but disappointed that I was only able to do seven laps in the first race. I clipped the kerb with the generator cover and was flicked off and that was that. Luckily I didn't hurt myself, but afterwards I was really looking forward to race two and doing better. I started OK but, as the race wore on, my bike began to suffer with a technical problem and I couldn't push as hard as I would've liked. I kept going as fast as I could, but just missed out on the points."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"Leon rode as hard as he could and I'm happy because he did everything we asked of him. He kept the bike upright and brought it home in both races. If he had qualified on the first two rows of the grid, I think his race pace would've been good enough for a top-six finish.

"It was good to have John back and we were all looking forward to him completing two races today and getting back into the groove. Fortunately he was unhurt in his crash in race one and a technical problem in race two meant that he couldn't fight for a top-10 finish. It was a shame because his race pace in qualifying had been pretty good and I'm sure that he would've finished much higher if he hadn't had the problem. This series is tough and having to start so far down the grid makes life even more difficult. We're going to have to qualify better and give ourselves a chance of good results, but I am positive we can do that with the quality of the riders we have and the team behind them."

Camier's season best at Donington WSB

amier was lucky to escape a first corner crash - that cost him some valuable time - and then got stuck behind Eugene Laverty, before passing the Irishman and chasing down the group in front. Camier caught and passed Sylvain Guintoli and looked to be heading for a comfortable, and impressive, sixth before drama on the last corner saw the BMWs of Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri collide. This incident gave Camier the chance to take an unexpected, but ultimately well deserved fourth. His pace in the latter parts of the race matched the front-runners and, but for the avoiding action he had to take on the first corner, he could have been right amongst the battle for podium honours. Camier made it a double of top-10 finishes today after bringing his Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R home in a hard-fought ninth in the first race. Peter Hickman made an impressive debut in the World Superbike Championship by racing his FIXI Crescent Suzuki to ninth place in race two. He made a good start and was quickly up into a point-scoring position from 19th on the grid, before catching and overtaking more experienced riders on his way to 11th by lap 19. Hickman rode hard for the remainder of the race to preserve his place, before finally bringing his machine home in ninth after the last corner incident. Hickman's first race was cut short by a small electrical issue that forced him to pit early on, his crew were able to trace the trouble and get him back on track, but he was too many laps behind and finished the race as not classified; although he did collect some valuable data that will assist the team as it moves forward.

Today's races were held in dry, sunny, but windy conditions, with track temperatures getting up to 18°C this afternoon. The first race of the day was won by Marco Melandri on a BMW, with Jonathan Rea on a Honda taking the spoils in race two. Italian Max Biaggi leads the Championship, with Tom Sykes second and Rea in third.

FIXI Crescent Suzuki will now head across the Atlantic for the sixth round of the season as it travels to Miller Park near Salt Lake City in the state of Utah for the next race on Monday May 28th, where the team hope they will be re-joined by John Hopkins, who was forced to miss today's races due to an injury he suffered last weekend at Monza in Italy.

Leon Camier:

"I had the pace this weekend to be with the top guys and it felt good fighting and catching them today. In race one, there was a problem with the brakes and I couldn't get into the turns the way I wanted and that prevented me from catching the guys at the front. We changed to a softer rear tyre for race two. My start was OK and if I hadn't been held up for so long by Laverty and Guintoli I'm sure I would've been challenging for the podium at the end. It was a really enjoyable race and great fun catching people and passing them."

Peter Hickman:

"I had an electrical problem in race one and had to pull into the pits after just two laps. The guys fixed it and I went out again, but by then I had lost too much time to make any impact on the top 15. Fortunately there were no problems in race two and I was able to run consistently fast and chip away at the people in front of me one by one. My fastest lap was on lap 17 and I am really, really happy with how much I've learnt this weekend - getting ninth today was like a win for me! I would like to give huge credit to the team for building such a brilliant bike and working so hard to help me this weekend and I would also like to say a big thank you to everybody at FIXI Crescent Suzuki for giving me this chance."

"We've had a much better weekend here at Donington than we have had recently and it's been good to see some smiles returning to the garage. Leon rode fantastically in the second race and could easily have been challenging for the podium if he'd have gotten away with the front group and not been held up.

"Peter did an excellent job for us this weekend. He came in a last-minute replacement after we lost John and he has done everything - and more - of what was asked of him. His ninth place is a good reward for him for his hard work.

"This weekend has been the strongest for the team since the start of the season. The only blip was in race one when Leon struggled with a combination of braking problems and tyre choice, and Peter had an electrical problem. An earth lead connector broke, but the team fixed it and got him out again, so that he could get some more laps under his belt. Race two showed the true potential of the FIXI Crescent Suzuki GSX-R. For Leon to finish just four seconds down on the race winner after a difficult start is a fabulous performance. Peter had to jump on to a completely different spec machine to his BSB bike and learn it quickly this weekend. To do that, make no mistakes, run consistent lap times, whilst giving us excellent technical feedback is extremely impressive.

"The only negative this weekend is that John wasn't here. It's easy to speculate, but I'm sure he would've been fighting for the podium in both races. We're hoping for positive news from him in California in the next couple of days, because a fit and fired up John is capable of great things."

Hopkins breaks his foot at a miserable Monza

Hopkins had a huge high-side after only a couple of laps and it was immediately evident that he was in some discomfort from the crash. Hopkins was taken straight for an X-ray where it revealed he had suffered a fracture of his foot as well as some torn muscles in his left hip. The incident involving Hopkins, as well as some other crashes, and the bad weather that has plagued Monza all weekend, left the organisers with no option but to cancel race one and hope that conditions improved for the second race later in the day. Race two did finally get underway after a short delay, with Leon Camier as Crescent FIXI Suzuki's only representative on the grid. The race began under menacing Monza skies and they didn't disappoint as rain caused the race to be red-flagged and stopped at half distance. Kawasaki's Tom Sykes was clear at the front of the pack so was awarded half points for his efforts - due to the shortened race - with Camier bringing his Yoshimura powered GSX-R home safely in 15th to score half-of-a-point.

Crescent FIXI Suzuki now heads straight to Donington Park in England for the European round of the WSBK championship - to be held at the Leicestershire circuit next weekend. The team will make a decision on the fitness of Hopkins once the severity of his injury has been assessed and will then make an announcement over his ability to take part or whether a substitute rider will be drafted in for the race.

John Hopkins:

"That was not a good weekend. I got pretty banged up in the first race crash and damaged my left hip and broke a bone in my right foot. I don't know what happened because the bike suddenly let go without any warning. It's a big shame because I had been really looking forward to this weekend and continuing my improvement. Today's conditions were treacherous and all the changes of weather didn't help at all. There was no way we could ride on the wets, so the right decisions were made."

Leon Camier:

"Today was embarrassing because I was running around with people I knew I could beat. I could catch them on the brakes, but once we exited the turns, they left me for dead. We all knew that there might be problems today if it was wet or partially wet, because in practice and qualifying the rain tyres destroyed themselves after about five or six laps, so there was no way that they would've lasted a race distance. We all hoped for dry conditions, but they never happened. The organisers were aware of the problems with the wet tyres and both their decisions today were the right ones."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"It's difficult to make complete sense of a day like today, but thankfully it doesn't happen very often. If the track was soaking wet and it was raining, the wet tyres wouldn't have lasted long enough - maybe just five or six laps. The cancellation of race one and the stoppage of race two were the correct choices, though obviously the crowds weren't very happy. Hopkins made a fantastic start in the first race, but was forced to take avoiding action when Melandri got all crossed up just in front of him. He dropped to 10th but got back in the groove before crashing out. Leon rode really grittily in both races I'm happy he kept both wheels on the ground and managed to finish. We've lost valuable track time this weekend and that's frustrating, especially as we've definitely improved our set-up in conditions like these."

Camier and Hopkins fired up for Monza

Leon Camier heads to the Italian circuit in a positive frame-of-mind and is sure that his knowledge of the track will enable him to push his Yoshimura powered Suzuki GSX-R1000 on towards a decent finish. John Hopkins is travelling to the Monza circuit to race for the first time in his career. He will need to spend some time acquainting himself with the 5,755m long track, but the 28-year-old is certain that he will get to grips with the circuit quickly and be up to speed as soon as possible. Hopkins has spent the time since the last race at Assen working on his fitness and has reported no problems from his injured hand.

The Autodromo Nazionale Monza is located north of Milan and is often referred to as the ‘Temple of Speed' and is famous for its 1.195 kilometre long front straight, which sees the riders achieve speeds of over 320 kph. Its mix of very long straights and tight chicanes, make good braking stability and traction as important as the high speeds that the bikes can attain.

Camier and Hopkins will take to the track for the first practice session on Friday morning as they begin their preparations for Sunday's two races. The first of which is scheduled to get underway at 12.00hrs local time (11.00hrs BST).

Leon Camier:

"Monza is going to be a tough one for sure. The track is all about speed, but you also have to understand the corners as well. It's a place where slipstreaming is very important and it is possible to be fourth going into Ascari and still win the race. For that you need to be in front going into the Parabolica because the finish line is much nearer to the last corner than it used to be. Last year I was faster than my team mate in the second race, but a crash ruined everything.

"Because of the changing weather conditions in the last round, we didn't get a chance to try as many things as we would've liked, so we'll use the first practice as a kind of test session. I am looking forward to Monza and would like three days of dry weather so we can get all our work done at the beginning. If we do that, I feel positive we can come away with good results."

John Hopkins:

"Funnily enough, I have never ridden at Monza before, so I will have to start the weekend learning the track. Normally I am a quick learner and, because I have watched a lot of TV footage of the track, I don't see any big problems. Apart from the chicanes, it looks pretty straightforward. As long as it's dry, I reckon I can get it dialled in pretty easily.

"After the last race, I had absolutely no problems with my hand at all. Since then, I've been mountain biking and doing some motocross and the hand has been good. I felt very comfortable on the Crescent FIXI Suzuki in Assen and was just happy to be out there riding and getting to know the bike better. Now I'm looking forward to Monza and getting my best results of the season so far."

Camier third on a rain affected first day at Assen

Camier made the most of the drier conditions right at the beginning of this afternoon's session to set a time of 1:38.468, before the rain started to fall and made the chances of him improving on his time impossible. The British rider is in a confident mood that he can better his time if conditions allow it tomorrow and is also pleased to have already qualified for Saturday afternoon's Superpole if the final qualifying session in the morning is wet. John Hopkins (P13, 1:39.626) made a positive start to the day, as he immediately felt stronger and more at ease with his Crescent FIXI Suzuki GSX-R than he did last time out at Imola. He also managed to get inside the top 16, so will be in Superpole tomorrow afternoon if conditions don't improve at the 4,542m Dutch circuit.

Camier and Hopkins will have a final qualifying session tomorrow morning followed by a 45 minute free practice to make the final preparations for the Superpole session, where the pair will be going all out to get the best qualifying positions for Sunday's two races.

Leon Camier:

"In the morning we started with a hard tyre, but the grip level wasn't' so good, probably because the track was quite cold, so we changed to a softer one after about eight or nine laps. I put in some reasonable times and I'm confident I can go quicker given more dry laps. We had an idea that the rain would come in afternoon qualifying, so we made a plan to get out on the track as soon as the session started - and it worked! It began drizzling before the end of the first lap, but I managed to set a good time - third fastest - and I'm happy that our idea worked out so well. If it rains in tomorrow's qualifying session, we know we've qualified for Superpole and that's a good start."

John Hopkins:

"My hand feels pretty good and I feel a lot stronger physically than I did in Imola. Assen is a less physical circuit and this morning I felt at home on the bike almost straightaway. There's been a few changes to the circuit since I last rode here in 2009, so there's a few parts I have to learn. I'm comfortable on the parts I already know well, so it's just a question of improving in a couple of places. I have a really positive feeling about the Crescent FIXI GSX-R today. I've ridden loads of laps round here in the wet, so it's not going to be a problem if it rains. We got caught out a little bit at the start of this afternoon's qualifying session, but our aim was to finish in the top 16 and we achieved that goal."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"We started the day well this morning and both riders managed to get some laps in and get used to the track. The hard tyres didn't work so well because the track was a bit cold and slippery, so we switched to some softer ones later in the session and were able to go quicker. Leon's happy with the bike and could've pushed harder if he had needed to. John's in really good spirits and his hand was strong enough for him to push hard in the sections he knew. All he has to do now is to work on the areas he doesn't know so well, but he's a quick learner, so I have no doubt that he'll improve considerably. In the afternoon, Leon got out very early and was able to put in a quick lap before the rain came down and made sure of a good position going into tomorrow's qualifying and Superpole. John didn't get out as quick, and only did two laps, but I'm happy because he finished well inside the top sixteen - ahead of the likes of Haslam, Biaggi and Aoyama."

Crescent Fixi Suzuki Building Momentum for Assen Attack

Leon Camier is heading to the Dutch circuit in a confident mood following the successful test at Imola in Italy and is looking forward to racing at a track he enjoys and has performed well at in the past. Camier used a new-spec Yoshimura engine during the recent test and is eager to get back on track and to continue with the progress made in Italy. John Hopkins has spent the last week back in America undergoing an intensive training programme to get him up to race fitness in readiness for this weekend's event. Hopkins suffered with the after-effects of a pre-season injury - that caused him to miss the first race of the season in Australia - last time out at Imola and will be keen to get back on his Crescent FIXI Suzuki GSX-R and get some track-time under his belt. Assen's flowing nature will be kinder to Hopkins, than the more demanding track at Imola, and he is looking forward to trying the improvements made in the test as he continues to get up to race fitness.

The Assen circuit is known as ‘The Cathedral of Motorcycle Racing' and is one of the most famous race-tracks in the world. The track is located in the north of The Netherlands, near the town of Groningen and although the venue has altered considerably from the original road circuit, the 4,542m track still retains its magic and is a favourite with fans and riders alike.

Crescent FIXI Suzuki takes to the track for the first practice session on Friday in preparation for Sunday's two 22-lap races, the first of which will get underway at 12.00hrs local time (11.00hrs BST).

Leon Camier:

"I'm definitely looking forward to Assen. It's a track I've always enjoyed riding and I've gone good there in the past. Last year I think I got the fastest lap and was only about a tenth off the lap record. It'll be interesting to see how we get on at Assen and how we shape up next to everyone. At the test we had in Imola, after the last round, we made some progress for sure and made some steps towards where we need to be. Going third fastest was a real boost for everyone, but we know the real test is to see how we end up in the races come Sunday.

"We all know there's a lot of work ahead, but the vibe amongst us is good and I'm sure the bigger steps will come. I just want to say thanks to all the Suzuki fans for sticking with us at the moment. The support has been fantastic, and trust us, we're pushing!"

John Hopkins:

"After Imola, I went back to America and I've done five days of solid riding on my enduro bike. Whilst it's no substitute for being on my race bike, it has given my hand a good workout and I'm happy to report that all is OK in that area. I've also been training hard and I'm feeling better and better, day by day. Imola is a very physical circuit and I wasn't 100% race fit, so that was a bit frustrating, but Assen is a less demanding track and I'm sure my progress will continue there. I'm really looking forward to getting on my Crescent FIXI GSX-R again and seeing for myself the improvements made during the test at Imola."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"The Imola test was a big step forward to getting to a more competitive level. The Yoshimura guys put in a huge effort to get the new engine spec ready for Leon to try at the test and that has allowed us to go up another level. I'm happy that John has been able to spend so much time on his dirt bike and also train hard. It may take a couple more rounds for him to be at full strength, but I'm sure we'll see him more competitive at Assen. If Leon and John have good race set-ups and can qualify well, there's no reason why we cannot get our best results of the season so far."

Camier fights to eighth at Imola WSB

Leon Camier charged from 15th on the grid to a hard-fought-for eighth position in the second race of today's Imola World Superbike Championship second round in Italy, making up for his DNF in race one after making contact with Joan Lascorz on the opening lap. Crescent FIXI Suzuki team mate John Hopkins took his first points of the year in race one after battling through the field on the Yoshimura-powered GSX-R1000 from 19th to 13th in his 2012 race debut, but he was unable to repeat the feat in race two after severe arm-pump forced him to retire after just four laps.

Leon Camier - Race 1: DNF (1 lap). Race 2: 8th:

"I'm not sure if my coming together with Lascorz was my fault or just a racing incident. I made a reasonably good start and tried to make big gains straight away, passing a lot of people going into turn one. At turn five, I went round the outside of Giugliano and when I got back on the racing line, Lascorz and I collided and that was the end of my race. I managed to get the bike back to the pits, but crash damage prevented me from going out again.

"I'm pretty happy to get eighth place in the second race today and think I could've finished even higher if it hadn't been for my grid position. I started pretty aggressively but soon fell into a good rhythm. I was lapping strongly at the end and was catching the group ahead, so who knows what would've happened with a better grid position. This series is very competitive and you have to be on the first two rows of the grid if you are to have any chance of a podium, so all things considering, eighth is pretty good."

John Hopkins - Race 1: 13th, Race 2: DNF (4 laps):

"I made a decent start in race one but lost a few positions in the carnage in the first laps. After that I kept my head down and tried to lap consistently. I wanted to get used to being in a race situation again after such a long time. Understandably my right arm was a bit sore after 21 laps, but I thought it'd be OK for race two. But, almost right from the start, it began to pump up and soon I couldn't hold on to the bars properly. I knew it was impossible to ride competitively and because I didn't want to anybody else in danger, I decided to pull in. I'm realistic enough to know that I am not yet race fit, but there were positives that I can build on. I know I'm going to be a lot stronger next time out for sure."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"We knew all weekend that Leon could run in the top six because of his lap times, so it was unfortunate that he had to start from the fourth row of the grid. In race one, he had a collision with Lascorz and that was that. In race two, he got involved with the pack and was doing low 1:49s towards the end of the race, finishing a strong eighth. I'm pretty happy about that and it shows that the Crescent FIXI Suzuki has potential.

"John did well to bring the GSX-R home safely in the points in race one because there was a lot going on in the early laps. I've known John a long time, so the problem must have been really bad for him to retire in race two. This is a very physical circuit and it has given John a hard workout, but I've no doubt that he will be fitter and more competitive next time out."

Hopkins returns at Imola Superbikes

Crescent Fixi Suzuki's John Hopkins has been given the all-clear by his hand surgeon in America and will join team mate Leon Camier for this weekend's second round of the World Superbike Championship at Imola in Italy. Hopkins, who broke his hand during the team's first test at Phillip Island in Australia last month and missed the season opener there, flew to the UK at the weekend to join the team and prepare for his season debut on the #21 Yoshimura-powered GSX-R1000.

John Hopkins:

"I am so pleased to get the all-clear and cannot wait to get on the bike again. I had been given strict instructions not to do any riding this week, which has been a bit frustrating, but I have occupied my time well with physiotherapy, training and numerous spells in the hyperbaric chamber. All of this has helped me to recover quickly and I have no doubt that I will be as fit as can be at Imola.

"It's been very busy recently. On Tuesday, I was in the hyperbaric chamber and then drove three hours each way to see my nutrition doctor in Palm Springs. Before that I have really been putting in the hours on my mountain bike and also on the cardio machines in the gym.

"I am really happy with my hand, how well it has been healing; and the range of movement I have got. When I saw the doctor on Wednesday, he told me that the bone was fully healed and everything was OK and I could start riding again. I was hoping to get on my dirt bike before leaving for the UK but I have just sold my house and there's loads of stuff to sort out, but I'll try and fit in a ride somehow before Imola. I am really looking forward to catching up with everybody at Crescent Fixi Suzuki and getting back to the racetrack. I've missed it, but I feel ready and raring to go."

Leon Camier:

"It seems a long time since Phillip Island so I'm really looking forward to Imola and being back on track again. The last time I raced in Imola, I ended up on the podium and that's a memory I'd like to repeat. I am happy with the chassis and base set-up we found in Australia, so we'll try and build on that in the first practice session and keep improving. The first race of the year is always a bit difficult, but I feel we came away with a lot of good feedback and information and we will use that to make the Crescent Fixi Suzuki better. I've been training hard recently, doing a lot of cycling and feel in really good shape. Now, all I want is to get back on the bike and start racing again."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"Since Phillip Island, we've been pouring over all the data and working on improving the bike. Leon was pretty happy with the chassis and base set-up, so we've been looking at other things - including improving tyre wear. John's crew chief Lez spent some time in Yoshimura Japan after Phillip Island, sharing some data and ideas to improve the Crescent GSX-R1000. They found a couple of areas where improvements can be made and the first practice at Imola will give us a chance to see how these ideas make the bike feel.

"Obviously we're all delighted to have John back with us and it gives the whole team a boost. From what his doctor says, the hand should be more-or-less at full strength. I would like John to take the first day or so in Imola steadily, build up gradually and get race fit as soon as he can without any stress. I am looking forward to Imola and a positive weekend, with good, solid results."

First points for Crescent Fixi Suzuki Team

Crescent Fixi Suzuki raced to its first World Superbike Championship points at the 2012 WSBK season-opener at Phillip Island in Australia today. Although the results were not what they were looking for from Leon Camier and temporary stand-in Josh Brookes, the positive feedback and amount of valuable information gained will be invaluable for the next round of the series at Imola in a month's time.

Leon Camier - Race 1 - 17th, Race 2 - 12th:

"I wanted better results today but we've gathered masses of information in the team's first-ever WSBK race and I'm positive that we'll see a big improvement in Imola. I can't tell you how happy I am with the GSX-R's chassis - for me it has the potential to win races. The bike brakes really well, is stable in mid-corner; and I'm perfectly happy with its character. If we can get a bit more power, we'll be contenders for sure. In race one, I got pushed off the track by Giugliano and lost ground. I started chasing back to catch up, but as the race went on the tyre wore out completely and I couldn't push any harder.

"In the second race, I got hemmed-in going into turn one, lost ground and was 14th at the end of lap one. I was able to pass a lot of people on the brakes, but lost out on acceleration and top speed and again the way I had to ride to compensate destroyed the tyre at the end. This was a tough day but the potential is huge."

Josh Brookes - Race 1 - 16th, Race 2 - 15th:

"I feel better about today than the rest of the weekend. For race two, we went back to front-end ride height we used yesterday plus some softer springs. The changes made a huge difference to how the front end felt and the bike braked and turned better. We turned down the traction control for race two and although I was happier with the feel of the bike, it resulted in destroying the tyres more quickly. I'd like to thank Crescent Fixi Suzuki for giving me the chance to ride the bike. I have learnt a lot this weekend and my mind has been opened as to the potential of the Suzuki I'll be riding in the British Superbike Championship."

Jack Valentine - Team Manager:

"Race two was much better for Leon and his lap times when he was playing catch up from 14th were excellent - good enough to run in the top four or five. We need to find a bit more power and hopefully this will come with the next-step Yoshimura GSX-R engines. I'm pleased that Josh got into the points. He has worked hard throughout the tests and this weekend and we really appreciate his efforts standing in for Hopper. Overall I am happier with the second race potential and generally we've gained a lot of good, useful information to take to the next round in Imola.

Paul Denning - Team Principal:

"Phillip Island is a brutal track if you don't have a perfect set-up and we also missed John's speed and experience with the Suzuki, so our backs were up against it right from the start. Leon's results today didn't demonstrate his potential, but his race pace in the second 22-lapper showed that he can run with the top group - but a combination of being 14th at the end of lap one and tyre-wear issues made it hard for him to get back into contention.

"I'd like to thank Josh for joining the team at short notice and working as hard as he did in the tests and this weekend. I'd also like to thank Fujio, Yohei and all the guys at Yoshimura. We need their help to go forward and we're all looking forward to the next-spec engines. This is a World Championship and it's tough at this level but we are determined to fight for good results!"
