The test was marked by the fall of Rea in Superpole, who after getting third place in the first race had to go back to fifth place in the second.
At the Barcelona event, the headquarters of the KRT team, the good work of the Kawasaki Racing Team in the set-up of their motorcycles and the desire of their riders to achieve a good result on this track could be appreciated.
The initial race scheduled for 20 laps was stopped after only four laps due to the crash of Granado that forced the red flag to be displayed. After the restart of the race there was an intense battle for second place between Razgatlioglu and Rea, while the first position went to Bautista, unstoppable this weekend. Finally, the Turkish rider managed to overtake Rea on his Yamaha on the last lap, who with this third place added up to his fourth podium of the season. Lowes was unable to score as he suffered a fall when he was riding behind Lecuona's wheel trying to recover a good race rhythm.
For the first race on Sunday, the 10-lap Tissot Superpole, all the riders started on slics tyres, so when a light rain appeared halfway through the race you could see the more confident riders in those conditions pick up the pace. . As in the case of Rea who managed to place second, with another time ahead of Bautista who had already taken a lot of advantage over the rest of the competitors, and risking it again with Razgatlioglu, but a quick contact with a wet and slippery white line made him go to the ground at high speed, thankfully without taking physical damage.
Lowes also showed good pace in the changing track conditions, fighting for a third place that eventually became fifth as he was passed by two rivals on the final lap.
In the last race on Sunday, Rea was conditioned by starting in tenth position due to his fall in Superpole, even so, the Kawasaki Racing Team rider gave it his all, managing to climb back to fifth place, 1.4 seconds behind his teammate , Alex Lowes, who was fourth.
After the results achieved in the Catalan event, Rea is fourth in the overall championship standings with 100 points, and Lowes is ninth with 62 points.
STATEMENTS:
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team Rider): "I touched the white line and crashed in Superpole. When Toprak passed me, I felt that he was quite close and that he was not drawing the corner, but trying to open my line. In the straight, at 320 km/h I touched the white line when a few drops of rain had fallen and that was enough for me to fall.
Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team Rider): I got a good start in the second race, I rode well and I tried to control it until the end. I can't ride much better, I haven't made any mistakes and I've been on the limit every lap, so I know I'm riding well. As a team we all have to work together to try to close the gap and take some steps forward."
