The batle between Rea and Bautista continues in Catalonia

Podium for Rea and Lowes in the Superpole Race, but crash for the Briton in Race Two, while Jonathan continues his personal fight with Bautista.

The Barcelona-Catalonia race-track circuit, also known as the Montmeló circuit, was ready when the WorldSBK riders arrived, ready to once again offer a weekend full of emotion on asphalt. On the first day, there was a clear and outstanding leader over the others, the local rider Iker Lecuona. However, the margins between the next best times were already much narrower.

Specifically, Jonathan Rea lapped very close to one of his main rivals in the championship, Álvaro Bautista, in the FP1 session. In fact, they both left the pit lane at the same time. Alex Lowes, for his part, looked like he was going to finish in the top five, but a small mistake caused him to lose time. As a result, Alex had to settle for his time set in the morning session, which left him in eighth position.

On Saturday, during the qualifying session, Lowes finished second and Rea third, very good results to start both on the front row of the starting grid.

Already in the race, Rea did not start well and was in seventh position after the first turns. He was later able to work his way up to fifth before gradually working his way up to finally finish second in another display by the Northern Irish rider of experience and cool during the race.

Lowes rode smooth and quiet for the first part of the race, holding third place for the first four laps, before being overtaken by a few rivals and eventually finishing seventh.

Sunday started well for the two KRT team riders, who chased Álvaro Bautista in the Superpole Race to the finish. In the end, Rea edged out Lowes to take second place from him; and Alex achieved his first podium since Donington Park.

In Race Two, Rea finished fourth after battling for podium positions for much of the race. In this way, Jonathan ends this round in third place overall.

Lowes, for his part, was not too lucky, as he crashed on the first lap, thus ending the weekend for the British rider sooner than expected.

We will have to wait until next October 7, 8 and 9 to experience another round of WorldSBK in Portugal.
