Continuing the strong form shown throughout the Qatar weekend, de Puniet rode an impressive race aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000 to close his 2015 rookie World Superbike campaign. Elevated to seventh on the grid, the Frenchman held his position for the duration of the second race, despite the challenge from the group around him, to take nine championship points. The opening contest began in a similar vein as he maintained his top-ten position from the outset. Battling with a five-strong group for eighth, he eventually dropped to 12th with three laps to go to collect four points at the flag leaving his season tally at 52 and in 18th position overall. A blistering start to the first race of the night had seen Alex Lowes battle to a podium position – which would also match his season’s best – to take third from Chaz Davies on lap four while holding off the charging three riders behind him for the next three laps. Unfortunately, the British racer was forced to retire his Yoshimura-powered GSX-R on lap seven with an engine failure. The bad luck continued into the final race of the year as Lowes brought his GSX-R into the pits after the sighting lap, failing to re-join the grid as the lights went out and bringing his season to an early close. Lowes concludes his second year 10th in the championship standings with 135 points. 2015’s eni FIM Superbike World Championship concluded under the Losail floodlights with Aprilia’s Jordi Torres and Leon Haslam taking the top step for one race each as the desert temperatures still registered 34°C on track despite the late night schedule. It’s such a disappointing way to end the season as we had made a huge step yesterday and an even bigger one today, after a difficult day on Friday. We were fourth in warm up and sitting third in the first race and I felt comfortable enough with the bike to fight with the riders around me when the bike stopped. We changed the engine for race two but unbelievably on the warm up lap it tightened up and I had to pull into pit-lane. It couldn’t be a more disappointing way to end the year but I have learned a lot and I am riding well. ” Randy de Puniet: “I’m very happy to finish the year like that because it was a really difficult season. Race one I was fighting for eighth four laps before the end but I struggled with engine brake and the front tyre-life, so I finished 12th. Race two we made some adjustment with the engine brake and this was better, helped me to stop the bike better so I wasn’t pushing so much with the front tyre, my start was good and I finished seventh. It’s good, it was my best result since Phillip Island so I’m happy to finish on a good point. Thanks to all the guys in the team this year, it was not so easy for everyone so to finish a race like this is good for us all.” Paul Denning – Team Manager: “Randy did a good job today, as he has done all weekend. No mistakes, good consistent pace and was rewarded with equalling his best result of the year with seventh in the last race of the season. Randy has been a very nice person to work with all year, it has not been as successful as either of us had hoped but he has been very professional, and we wish him all the best for the future in his career and in life in general. “On the other side of the garage the evening and the season couldn’t have ended with a more disappointing atmosphere. Alex was quick in qualifying, flying in warm up and in the race had gone from seventh to third – and most importantly looked comfortable fighting with Davies and the Aprilias – so to go out with engine failure was obviously a huge disappointment. The engine was changed but we suffered a technical failure of exactly the same sort on the warm up lap of the second race. Alex deserved a lot better, the team after their efforts all season deserved better and we can only apologise to Alex for tonight and thank him for his unwavering efforts to be as competitive as possible at all times. “Finally at Crescent’s last race with the Suzuki GSX-R, I would just like to say a huge and personal thank you to everyone at Suzuki Motor Corporation Japan, Suzuki’s distributors across Europe, the US and the rest of the world. Top 6 pour Lowes et Voltcom Crescent Suzuki à Laguna Seca

A great start off the lights saw the British racer sitting sixth on his Yoshimura-powered GSX-R for the initial three laps of the morning’s action before a small error dropped him back slightly to eighth. Digging deep for the mid-race, Lowes increased his pace to take seventh from World Champion Sylvain Guintoli on lap 17. Lowes then closed the gap on Leon Haslam, pressing the Aprilia rider into an error and claiming sixth and 10 points at the flag. Race two looked to be an equally strong performance for Lowes as he held seventh on lap one after another good start. However it wasn’t to be, as an issue with the front tyre and an early incident on lap two brought about his eventual retirement on lap nine. Lowes leaves America 10th in the standings with 94 championship points and ready for two races in the far-east in the coming weeks. Recovering his weekend’s early form, Randy de Puniet took his Suzuki GSX-R1000 from 17th on the grid to a double 11th place finish for the day’s two races. Battling hard just outside of a top ten position, the Frenchman collects 10 points from his American visit and is looking forward to continuing the developments made. A mixed day of humid clouds, sunshine and the threat of rain saw lower than normal track temperatures (peaking at just 33°C) as Ducati’s Chaz Davies converted his pole-sitting pace into a double race win. As the freight is packed up to travel directly to Malaysia, Voltcom Crescent Suzuki now prepare to journey east for round ten at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday 2nd August, while Alex Lowes flies first to Japan for the Suzuka 8Hours endurance race next week. Alex Lowes: “I felt good in race one. I made a small mistake in the first turn, but I recovered from that and it was great to race, catch and pass Sylvain and close down on Leon on the factory Aprilia. The bike felt much better than it has done recently and we made good progress over the course of the weekend. The second race I was fully fired up for a good fight to try and get involved at the front but immediately on the first lap it felt like I had a front puncture, the bike was folding everywhere and I had no choice but to come into the pit. The bike itself felt perfect, the same as race one, but we will have to investigate the situation with the tyre. Because it was spitting with rain and the race was effectively over having come in, we threw wet tyres on just in case the rain got heavy which would have allowed us to get back involved. Unfortunately the rain didn’t come, I was out for a few laps but it was clear there was nothing more to be gained. A disappointing end to a really good weekend but the first race has set me up well for the 8Hour next week and I will be coming back to WSBK in Sepang knowing that we can fight with the group.” Randy de Puniet: “Two 11th places, so it’s better than the previous races, but I am a little disappointed because we started the weekend very well. I crashed in FP4 when I had a very good place and qualified 17th on the grid. To start on the sixth row here is not so easy and the feeling was not quite as it was before the crash so I tried to manage as best I could. We made some small adjustments between the two races but it was not enough. I also struggled a little for the second half of race two with the brake, race one was ok, but race two was not as easy, so we will look to improve this and a little more with the chassis for a better corner-entry feeling. Now with this base we can look to improve further at Malaysia. It’s a track I know well and enjoy, after my time in MotoGP™, so I can get into the rhythm quickly and look to have a better feeling with the GSX-R.” Paul Denning – Team Manager: “As Alex said, the weekend has ended disappointingly with a strange problem with the front tyre feeling in race two, but we still have to take the positives from the improvements that have come over the course of the weekend. A far more competitive showing in race one, catching and passing Sylvain – who we have to remember is the current World Champion – and closing down the factory Aprilias shows very good progress. “On Randy’s side, two points scoring finishes is a good step in the right direction. Less than we had hoped for after a good start on Friday but the huge crash in FP4 took the wind out of Randy’s sails a little bit and it was difficult to rebuild to the same level after that but we will look to continue the progress in Malaysia in a fortnight’s time.”

A six lap sprint race concluded the morning’s action as Lowes, taking to the grid in 13th, crossed the line in 12th, collecting 10 points from the day’s two races. Continuing to struggle with confidence in the new electronic control systems, Randy de Puniet retired his Suzuki GSX-R1000 from both races having completed 4 laps of each, leaving him in 19th place in the Championship. The weekend’s 65,000 strong Italian crowd witnessed the British domination of the WSBK Championship continue under cloudless skies, as Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea took victory in both races from his teammate Tom Sykes, the two riders each collecting a fastest lap award in the process. The home race, for both Voltcom Crescent Suzuki and Alex Lowes, now beckons as the team return to the UK in preparation for Donington Park in just two weeks’ time on Sunday 24th May. Alex Lowes: “A difficult day but I tried my best in both races. It’s frustrating that we haven’t made more improvements but we’re that far into it now that we just have to keep going, keep our heads down, work as hard as we can and see if we can go better at Donington. Obviously I will have the advantage that I know the track and I think it will be less critical on the electronics so I’m looking forward to Donington already. You have two choices when things aren’t going your way, you either give in or you keep working, keep doing your best, keep trying to improve the bike and see what happens, so that’s what we’re doing!” Randy de Puniet: “I’m very disappointed as Imola was another bad weekend for me. We are still struggling to find the correct base setting for the electronics system and it has now affected three race weekends. I really hope we can find the solution at Donington so we can start building our season from there.” Paul Denning – Team Manager: “A very challenging day at the office. The whole Voltcom Crescent Suzuki team could not be working harder to find the correct solutions – from tyre technicians to crew chiefs, everybody is giving 100%. The biggest frustration is that the very clear results of our testing after Assen did not translate at all to the Imola Circuit. If a bike has issues with throttle connection, driveability and engine brake control, these issues will be multiplied at Imola due to the very technical layout of the track and that’s exactly what happened. Equally, when the focus is on these fundamental problems, normal chassis setting work takes a back seat and the overall bike performance doesn’t progress as it should. “Again, Alex simply did all we could ask of him and rode really well to score good points. He has continued to apply himself in a difficult situation, and to set his best lap time of the day on the final lap of race two shows his commitment to the very end. His efforts and natural speed indicate that we will be straight back into a stronger position when the fundamental problems are solved.”

Despite this, the British racer continued his charge at the Cathedral of Speed, progressing to eighth for the concluding six laps, and holding off the Ducati of Xavi Fores before he was caught on the final revolution to take ninth, and seven Championship points. The morning’s battle had begun in a similar vein, with Lowes making a great start before being relegated to 13th on the second lap. A fairly solitary and uneventful mid-race looked to be granting him the valuable information needed to continue the team’s progression with the GSX-R’s new systems, before another unfortunate, but seemingly harmless, run-on at the first corner on lap nine became an unexpected accident. De Puniet – running three places behind Lowes – crashed under braking into Haarbocht on the same lap, collecting his teammate in the aftermath. The Crescent team quickly responded by preparing the second race bike for the afternoon encounter, however, the Frenchman’s day did not improve. With the continuing set-up issues apparent from the start, de Puniet retired the GSX-R1000 on the sixth lap. An expectant 50,000 strong crowd saw Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea claim both fourth round victories to extend his lead on the Championship, with local hero Michael van der Mark (Honda) securing his debut WSBK podium with a double third. Voltcom Crescent Suzuki now heads back to the UK for two weeks of continued evaluation and preparation ahead of the Acerbis Italian Round at Imola on Sunday 10th May. Alex Lowes: “Today was always going to be difficult but I gave it my best right to the end. It’s our first top ten with the new system which is positive, especially as no one else crashed so it’s a genuine result. We ran strongly for the first few laps of race two, until I got caught out entering turn one, so obviously still need to improve, but we’ve all done our best so we can be happy with that. Thanks to all the team for working so hard, we’ve got some good information to go on now so we will continue to push forward together and see what we can achieve at Imola.” Randy de Puniet: “I don’t know what to say, we have struggled in every session for the whole weekend. During race one I was running quite well and close to Alex after his mistake, my lap time was good but I was at the limit because I was unable to stop the bike how I need to. I crashed at turn one and hit Alex as I hit the gravel. Luckily we are not injured but the frame of my bike was completely destroyed and we needed to use the spare bike for the second race. As I had never used this bike before we still had problems with engine brake, connection and front suspension, I was running 16th/17th and was not confident, so I decided to stop instead of risking crashing again.” Paul Denning – Team Manager: “We have made some limited progress with the new ECU system this weekend but we still face some fundamental issues, particularly with the engine brake control, that have made it very difficult for the riders to race rather than simply ride. “For Alex making smooth laps on his own in practice has generated some competitive lap times but those have flattered the level of the bike when it comes to being adaptable in racing conditions. The main positives from Assen are that we have moved forward and we understand more about the next steps and priorities, the fact that neither rider was hurt in a very frightening and very scary collision in race one, and Alex’s performance in race two where he ran with the front group until the engine brake issue caught him out into turn one. The way he regrouped and set the sixth fastest lap of the race is another affirmation that when things are right we will be straight back in the fight with the front group. “Randy made the decision to stop in race two – both riders were under instruction not to take any risks, we need to get the bike right and we need two fit, motivated riders when that happens. We will be doing absolutely everything in our power to make sure that we use the next two weeks before Imola to arrive in Italy with a properly competitive GSX-R.”

Struggling with the new circuit, a determined Randy de Puniet battled to 10th by the mid-point of his first Thai race before a last lap mistake dropped him to 13th. The afternoon’s disappointment continued in the concluding action as the Frenchman retired his GSX-R1000 on lap six, taking three points from the second round and leaving him 15th in the standings. Jonathan Rea claimed both race victories and fastest lap awards aboard his Kawasaki in front of a 50,000-strong crowd at the new Chang circuit in Buriram. Lowes’ podium contributed to his day’s haul of 25 points, promoting him to seventh in the Championship after four races. Voltcom Crescent Suzuki’s next weekend of competition will herald the start of the Europe season, as the eni FIM Superbike World Championship heads to Aragon in Spain on Sunday 12th April. Alex Lowes: “I’m really happy to be back on the podium – it’s a third place but for us it means a lot after Phillip Island! It really should have been two podiums today, I just made a small mistake because I was determined to catch Leon and get second. The first race was going well because after 12 laps I was 10th and close to the top-six and even though I wasn’t as confident as I had hoped, I was improving my lap times a lot. After lap 12 I struggled with the braking and could only finish 13th. “Unfortunately in race two we broke the engine. We need to forget this race and start from zero in Aragon. The only positive points are I am in good shape and impatient to ride at Calafat in ten days to try the new Marelli system, because every step is important for us. The team worked really hard and it was great for Alex to finish on the podium so we know we can do it, now we just need to put everything together.” Paul Denning: “After showing great potential in Philip island and suffering a really difficult race day, it’s been very positive to reconfirm the potential of the 2015 Suzuki GSX-R, and of course Alex himself, this weekend in Thailand.
