Assen Round

Two victories for Kawasaki Racing Team

Just one week after the appointment in Motorland, the WorldSBK traveled to Assen, in Holland, to celebrate the third meeting of the season.

With a weekend marked by the unusual high temperatures that the Dutch circuit does not have us accustomed to, the KRT riders set a good pace on Friday's practice day, passing the cut directly to fight for pole position. The first victory of the weekend was for the reigning champion Jonathan Rea who after a few laps led by the local driver Michael van der Mark took the victory with a difference of 0.981 seconds.

Tom Sykes proved to have a good race pace approaching the leading group but finally finished in fourth position, a step away from the podium. This result allowed him to start in first place in the race on Sunday, where he led the 21 laps in an unstoppable way and thus taking his first win of the season.

His teammate Jonathan Rea finished in second position, a result that he had to fight alongside the Dutch rider Michael van der Mark, the third classified who won a few laps with a strong pace.

With the Assen Round completed, Rea has a considerable lead in the championship, leading with 159 points over Davies with 129. Melandri is next with 115, van der Mark with 103 and Sykes with 101. The next round will take place in the Italian circuit of Imola, on May 12 and 13.
